We had an excellent weekend at the Loch Moy Donation Derby! It was so fun to watch our riders put into practice the things they've worked so hard on at home! Martha and Winny WON their division! There were lots of other "firsts" as well- First run at training division for Annaliese, First off property show for Celina, as well as Sonata, first ride since VHT for Avery ! We are so proud of everyone and can't wait to set new goals for the January Derby.
VHT Fall 2020
There are many places to be on a cold and rainy Halloween weekend but we couldn’t be more grateful that we could spend ours in Lexington, VA at the Virginia Horse Trials. Our team of riders, grooms, and supporters stepped up to the plate to deliver us an amazing weekend full of smiles, laughs, and amazing rides.
Maureen and her horse, Pernicious, came out strong at their first recognized event. They had a beautiful dressage and a clear XC landing them in 7th out of 15 talented riders in the beginner novice division.
Avery and Duchess improved by leaps and bounds this year with a 5 point improvement in dressage and their first clear XC round. This team has come so far since they first met and we are so proud of them and everything they have accomplished together.
Annaliese and Lily had a lovely dressage and went double clear which landed them in 12th out of 27 in a tricky Junior Novice division. They’ve been working hard and the effort truly shows with what they’ve accomplished this season.
Last, but surely not least, our fearless leader Diane had an amazing outing at her first FEI event. Diane and her horse, Nate, competed in the CCI One Star Long this weekend which they have been working very hard towards. They had a lovely dressage, especially with a complicated test, and went double clear save a few time penalties on a tricky XC course. Diane and Nate finished in 4th place and we are very proud of them for having such a good trip for their first step onto the FEI stage.
Congratulations to all our riders, your hard work has truly paid off!
October Combined Test
We’re “falling” in love with our horses all over again as the leaves change! We held another home combined test and invited some friends to jump along with us and it was a great success! Everyone had a great day with big smiles, laughs, and some big jumps. We were so happy that outside riders could come and enjoy success with us on a beautiful fall day.
Home is where the XC is
Our new cross country fences courtesy of The Harley Horse Farm have been seeing a lot of action these past weeks. We’ve taken lessons, held a home combined test, and overall put these fences to good use. Having xc fences in our backyard helps keep our riders and horses ready, willing, and able to conquer cross country without having to schedule and pack for an off property trip. These fences are going to see a lot of use in their lives!
We're Jumping for Joy!!
Why? Because we have new cross country jumps! We’re so excited that we now have cross country jumps that we get to school at home. These jumps were built for us by the Harley Horse Farm and we’re excited to try them out, especially this weekend when they’ll be featured in our in-house combined test!
Summer Combined Test
Here at Cadence Stables, we’re enjoying a summer full of horse shows here at home! Our in-house combined tests continue to be a hit among our students and boarders as we spend the summer enjoying our horses competing despite the lack of shows. We’ve even started handing out ribbons and fostering healthy competition within our barn! All of our riders have been doing a fantastic job with their respective mounts and we’re very proud of everything they’ve been able to learn this summer.
Good Times at Goodstone !
A couple of weeks ago we were invited to ride at Goodstone Inn in Middleburg, VA to help showcase some of the many activities they offer. Goodstone Inn is a beautiful and expansive property stretching 265 acres that includes six lodging accommodations, unique gardens, and an intimate farm that provides produce for Goodstone’s award-winning culinary program. We thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to ride through their gorgeous fields and hope that this will be something we enjoy again and again!

It's Been Awhile!
Hey there! We’ve been quiet for awhile, but that’s because we’ve been working so hard and having so much fun with our horses that we forgot to update our news page! During these strange times, we’ve been conscientious of how to keep each other safe while still being able to enjoy our horses. We’ve been working hard, while maintaining social distancing, and coming up with new ways to show off what we’ve learned. Our barn family has been competing with and cheering each other on to supplement our show season and mix things up. While being respectful to maintain social distancing, we’ve been holding in house combined tests. These small events have been a fun and different way to keep things interesting so we can enjoy our horses and our community while staying safe!
We hope to keep updating you with more fun events, what we are working on, and any horse trials and shows we can attend as things restart!
April Successes Bring May Smiles!
This April has been a great month for our team! We’ve been spending our weekends showing off all the things we worked on this winter and the lessons we continuously learn through the spring season. Last weekend, Sam with Draco, Elisa with Thor, Tyler with Barnaby, and Angie with Ben tackled MDHT’s Beginner Novice and Elementary courses at their second starter of the season. All four ladies put in excellent rides during all three phases, really putting in some excellent rides in the dressage.
We spent our Easter weekend with our ponies at Prestige Combined Test. Alex with Kip, Mary with Minnie, Heidi with Thor, and Maureen with Pernicious put in excellent rides. This was our first time at this venue and we had a great time! Our riders celebrated ribbons all around!
We can’t wait to finish our April with Loudoun Pony Clubs’s Recognized Trial and head into May with big smiles and happy ponies!
First Recognized of the Season!
It’s been awhile since we posted about the fun we have here at Cadence Stables, but what better way to get back into the swing of things than share the highlights of our first recognized event of the season! This past weekend, our girls took on CDCTA with Daisy and Risky in Novice and Annaliese and Lily in the Beginner Novice. Both girls had fantastic rides in all three phases. We’re very proud that the hard work they put in this winter can be shown off at great events like this one!
Keep your eyes open for us this April at Loch Moy’s Starter Trial April 13th-14th, Prestige Training Center’s Combined Test April 20th, and Loudoun Hunt Pony Club Recognized Horse Trials April 27th.
Happy riding!
Loch Moy's Donation Derby
This past Saturday, we took advantage of the mild winter we’ve been having and took our team to Loch Boy Farm’s Donation Derby. This event incorporates all three of their fabulous rings combining stadium and cross country jumps on all weather footing for a great break in the normal winter routine. Angie with Ben, Shea with Kip, Daisy with Risky, Annaliese with Lily, and Sydney with Hugo put in great rides in Elementary, Beginner Novice, and Novice divisions. We’re very proud of all our riders and the hard work they have been putting in!
November News!
What better way to spend Thanksgiving than looking back on all the things we’ve been thankful for this month. This November, our team had the opportunity to take our horses to the Virginia Horse Trials in Lexington, Virginia. Diane, Courtney, Daisy and Annaliese took the weekend to show off all the hard work they have put in this season. They had great successes and learning experiences at the Beginner Novice, Novice and Training levels. The following weekend, Daisy and Risky took on Full Moon’s HT, finishing second in their division. We’ve also hosted our first AEL meet of the year and our team and horses performed wonderfully.
We are so thankful for happy, healthy horses, amazing boarders, and wonderful students. We can’t wait to finish out the year at Morningside’s CT and Loch Moy Farm’s Donation Derby.
Maryland Horse Trials Fall Starter 2
This past weekend, we took eight members of team Cadence out to compete at the MDHT Starter Trials at Loch Moy. Shea, Merril, Sam, Elisa, Courtney, Annaliese, Diane, and Daisy took on complicated courses and new questions with determination. Our riders felt great successes and learned valuable lessons both Saturday and Sunday. Eventing is a tough sport. There's so much to remember, so many details- but wow it feels great when it all comes together, or even when you learn an important lesson for next time. We are incredibly proud of all our riders and all they’ve accomplished this season.
Keep an eye out for us at Hunter Paces in the area and Virginia Horse Trials in Lexington!
We've Been Busy!
We've had a busy month and a half here at Cadence enjoying our horses. We sincerely apologize for the lack of updates, but we've just been having so much fun with them. These past few weeks we've enjoyed events such as Twilight Eventing, Hunt Club, Elysian Hill's Derby Cross and more. Just this past week, we enjoyed Destination Farm's Jumper Show with Shea with Kip, Daisy with Dobby, Avery with Duchess, and Finch with Mary, all who had very successful rides and lots of laughs. On Saturday, Tyler with Barnaby, Elisa with Thor, and Merrill with Dobby went back to Elysian Hill's for another derby cross. They all had a successful day topped off with big smiles. Tonight, Sam with Draco, Annaliese with Lily, Tyler with Barnaby, and Avery with Duchess will compete in the final Twilight Eventing of the season. We look forward to watching them ride!
We have many events coming up as the fall season gets into full swing. We'll see you all at the first fall MDHT Starter Trial, Seneca Valley Pony Club's HT, CDCTA HT and Casanova Hunt Hunter Pace at the end of September.
Elysian Hill's Derby Cross
On Saturday, June, 30th our team beat the heat to compete in a derby cross at Elysian Hill's Farm. This combination of stadium and cross country is both fun and challenging while operating in a fun and friendly setting. Sabrina with Maddie, Brittany with Saffy and Merrill with Dobby put in three great rides in the Intro division, coming in first, second and third in a group of thirteen riders. Tyler with Barnaby competed in the Elementary division and had a great ride, finishing in third.
Boyd Martin Clinic
We had a very exciting month here at Cadence in June! From racing around Twilight Eventing to our leader, Diane McCool, taking 4th at the Middleburg Horse Trials in the Novice Division, we've been putting our best foot forward to show off what we've learned.
When we heard that Boyd Martin, Olympian and Rolex rider, would be down the street from us we couldn't pass up the opportunity to close the month out strong. Sam with Draco, Elisa with Thor and Tyler with Barnaby rode with Boyd Martin the Beginner Novice group while Daisy with Risky pushed themselves to do the Novice/ Training group. Our girls had an amazing time and left with huge smiles after four wonderful rides. We couldn't be more proud of them!
Red Gate Farm's Jumper Show
The sun thankfully came out behind the clouds for us last weekend and we decided to take advantage of it by traveling up the road to have some fun at Red Gate Farm's Jumper Show. Our girls had a fabulous day, with nothing but smiles. Sabrina and Maddie conquered the 2'3 class with a beautiful round as did Avery and Duchess before moving up to the 2'7 class. Last but not least, Sam and Draco had a beautiful round at 2'7 making it a very successful move up class. Thank you, Courtney Might, for the beautiful photos!
We only have Loch Moy's 3rd Starter Trial left this upcoming weekend to close out May. We'll be taking June in full force before it gets too hot in July and August. We'll see you at Tru Liberty's Rust Buster Combined Test on June 2nd, Red Gate's Hunter show on June 3rd, Twilight Eventing at Loch Moy on June 6th, Hunt Club's Jumper Show on June 9th, Kelly's Ford Starter Horse Trial on June 16th, Surefire on June 23rd and 24th and finally, Hunt Club's Combined Test on June 30th.
Hunt Club Farms Starter Trial 2
Team Cadence had an exciting (and hot!) Saturday at Hunt Club Farms in Berryville. Shea, Tyler, Elisa, and Brittany came prepared to show off all the things they've been working on with their horses. Shea and Kip had a great experience, going clear through stadium and cross country in the Elementary division placing 5th for the day. Brittany and Saffy had a great learning experience in the Elementary division, demonstrating their jumping skills early on in the day. Tyler and Barnaby ended on their dressage score, having beautiful stadium and cross country rounds finishing 1st in the Elementary division. Last, not least, Elisa and Thor had a great day with beautiful stadium and cross country rounds in the Beginner Novice division. We are very proud of each of them!
Rappahanock Hunter Pace
This weekend we took full advantage of the beautiful spring weather and took nine riders and horses down to participate in Rappahanock's Hunter Pace. Our riders spent a little over an hour galloping through their beautiful property and fearlessly conquering jump options. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and are incredibly thankful we had such beautiful weather!
Hunt Club Farms Jumper Show
Happy May! We finished out April with an incredibly successful trip to Hunt Club Farms for their jumper show. Shea, Heidi, and Mary returned home with nothing but blue and red ribbons as they competed through Intro to Beginner Novice. We are very happy and proud of them!
We're enjoying our warm weather and making the best use of it as we plan out a busy May. We'll see you all at Hunt Club's Starter Trial, Red Gate's Combined Test, Morningside's Combined Test, and Loch Moy's Starter Trial as we get ready for summer!
