Morningside Combined Test and Elysian Hill's Derby Cross

Our team had a very busy weekend! We took advantage of the nice weather and spent it outside with our ponies.

On Saturday, Mary and Finch, Leslie and Minnie, and Merrill and Saffy attended Morningside's Combined Test. They each finished strong with excellent dressage scores and positive jumping rounds. Diane and Nate then joined them for some cross country schooling. All of our horses bravely conquered water, ditches, banks and more for a successful and fun day. 

On Saturday, Tyler and Barnaby, Elisa and Thor, Daisy and Risky, and Diane and Nate attended Elysian Hill's Derby Cross. This combination of stadium jumping and cross country excited our riders as a fun schooling opportunity. Our riders had a fun and positive day as Tyler, Daisy and Diane came in third in their respective divisions and Elisa in fourth. We left with big smiles on our faces as we finish out April with big smiles and warm weather. 

Keep an eye out for us as we close April at Hunt Club's Jumper Show and take on May with starter trials at Hunt Club and Loch Moy and Combined Tests at Red Gate and Morningside!

Morningside Combined Test

On April 7th, our riders braved the unseasonably cold weather to show off all that we've been learning this season. Despite the cold and wind, Mary and Finch took fourth in the Introductory Divison, Maureen and Pernicious took first place in the Elementary Division on their second trip off the property. Annaleise and Lily had a successful move up from Intro to Elementary coming in second in their division. Brittany and Saffy finished our group of Elementary riders out taking third. Both Sabrina and Maddie and Heidi and Thor had lovely dressage tests and great learning experiences in the Elementary Division and the Beginner Novice Division. After we finished showing, we ventured up the hill for some cross country schooling which all of our riders and horses enjoyed. 

Hunt Club Farms Starter Trial

Our Team finished March full of smiles and excitement as we entered competition season with success and promise. On March 31st, a team of our riders competed in Hunt Club Farms first spring stater trial. Tyler and Barnaby had a lovely ride at elementary, performing and learning in the Elementary Division, finishing in 7th place. Brittany and Saffy, in their first HT, had a great learning experience in the Intro Division and are excited to work hard to improve. Maureen and Pernicious, originally intending to do a Combined Test in the Intro Division, added cross country the morning of and finished in 4th at their first event together. Last, but not least, Mary and Finch completed a CT in the Intro Divison and left with big smiles. 

We're very proud of all our riders this month as we've watched the hard work they've each put in turn into successful rides, big smiles, and ribbons. Keep an eye out for us this April at Morningside's Combined Test on April 7th, Maryland Horse Trial's Second Starter Trial on April 14th, Morningside's Combined Test on April 21st, Elysian Hills Derby Cross on April 22nd, and Hunt Club Farms Jumper Show on April 28th. 

MDHT Spring Starter Trial #1

Our Cadence Team continued to set the bar high this weekend at the Maryland Horse Trials first spring starter. Despite the cold, our riders, friends, and families left with huge smiles, ribbons, and the promise of a great season. Shea and Kip tied for 2nd at their first ever HT in the Introductory Division. Annaleise and Lily also left their first HT together with smiles, placing 3rd in the Introductory Division. Sam and Draco had an exciting and successful return as they finished 3rd in the Elementary Division. Last, but not least, Elisa and Thor finished in 7th in the Beginner Novice Division. We had no dressage scores over 33 and couldn't be prouder of our riders.

Red Gate Combined Test

This past Sunday six of our riders started their show season at Red Gate Farm's Combined Test.  Our riders left with big smiles and great ribbons, gratifying the hard work they have each put in this winter. This big day was the first outing for new pairs as well as a great schooling opportunity to test bigger heights for others. We are incredibly proud of all our riders and cannot wait to see what the rest of the season has in store! They've set the bar high! 

NCAEL Team Finale

This year, Team Cadence spent the winter practicing and showing in equitation. A group of our adult riders comprised our Adult Equitation team, participating in four shows riding against other teams and riding unfamiliar horses. Over this past weekend, our team finished the season strong at Finale at Frying Pan Park. All of our riders finished with high ribbons and big smiles. We couldn't be more proud of them!

We're ready to hit the ground running this show season, make sure to look for us this month at Red Gate's Combined Test March 18th, Morningside's Combined Test March 24th, MDHT Starter Trial March 25th, and at Hunt Club's Starter Trial on March 31st.

Sugarloaf Hunter/Jumper Show

XC Schooling at Gordonsdale

It was a beautiful day for some cross country schooling at Gordonsdale! Couldn't be happier with everyone's performance, horse and rider alike!

MDHT Starter Trial #1

Team Cadence had a great time at MDHT's Starter Trial on March 26th. Tyler and Sima took 1st in their Intro level combined test, Sam and Star took 8th in their first Elementary HT and Heidi and Thor took 7th in their Elementary HT.  

We can't wait for the next one!

MDHT Starter Trial #3

Our eventers had a great time at MDHT's Starter Trial #3 at Loch Moy Farm!

Courtney Might and Liam went out for their first event together. They finished on their dressage score, which was an impressive 23, and went on to win the Elementary division!

Tyler Warman and her constant mount, Sima, finished their first event together. Next year will hold great things for them!

XC Schooling at Woodstock

We had a great day of XC Schooling at Woodstock Equestrian Center in Maryland! This free facility offers everything from stadium jumps to XC elements, including ditches, banks, a water complex and other jumps for various levels. XC Schooling at Gordonsdale

Team Cadence enjoyed another great cross country outing at Gordonsdale last weekend! Our horses and riders had a blast negotiating all different kinds of XC obstacles. Perfect weather and excellent photos courtesy of Hannah Jones Photography made it a day to remember.

XC Schooling at Morningside Training Farm

Team Cadence had a very fun outing at Morningside Training Farm in The Plains on Sunday! Riders schooled over many different XC obstacles, including logs, banks and water complexes. We ended the day with a refreshing swim on horseback through Morningside's lake, which was a fun and new experience for many of our horses and riders. We can't wait to go back!

Concerto's Sonata Awarded Silver Premium Rating

Cadence Stables is proud to announce that Concerto's Sonata was awarded a Silver Premium rating today at the RPSI inspection. Her Dam, Chamber Music, was accepted into Mare book 1 as well.

RPSI inspecitions, or keurings, are held in the late summer and early fall of each year at host sites throughout North America. Inspections are judged by qualified representatives of the German Parent registry. The same judges inspect German and North American foals to ensure consistency, resulting in fair and ethical keurings. As in Europe, approved mares and stallions are entered directly into the Mare Book and Stud Book and foals are given a registration number at birth. This number follows the foal's show results, location and breeding records, if applicable.

Jumper Show at Red Gate Farm

Red Gate Farm hosted a fantastic schooling opportunity at their low key jumper show on Wednesday evening, July 13th.  Each rider pushed themselves a little farther because it was such a comfortable environment.  Tyler and Sima did a beautiful round at 2 ft.  Hannah on Maddie and Isa on Lars did their first competition at 2'7".  And Sandi on Dobby, Heidi on Thor, Amy on Onyx, and Diane on Star all pushed themselves to 2'11" and had great fun!  We look forward to returning to this show in August!

Last Frontier Farm - JUMP! 2016

Last Frontier Farm (owned by Sharon White) hosted its annual derby cross horse trial - JUMP! - on Monday, July 4th. The courses are a combination of stadium-style and cross-country jumps designed to be ridden at appropriate division-level speeds. Team Cadence showed up (patriotic gear and all!) with four horse and rider combos and had a great time. Riders were able to walk the course with Sharon before their division. There were a lot of bright and distracting obstacles but all of the horses took everything in stride - everyone agreed that it was a very fun (and festive) way to spend the 4th of July!

Elysian Hills Starter Horse Trial

Our eventers had a fun outing at Elysian Hills on Saturday, July 2nd for their Starter Horse Trial. Both Sandi (on Dobby) and Tyler (on Lars) had great rides in the Elementary division. Huge congrats to Sam and Draco for completing their first full horse trial!

Turner Farm Horse Trials

Team Cadence had a great day at Turner Farm Horse Trials in Great Falls on Sunday! Sandi and Dobby placed 2nd and Heidi and Thor placed 3rd in the Elementary division. Michelle and Dave placed 2nd in the Intro division and Cinda and Charlie had fantastic jump rounds. The weather was beautiful and the event was very well-run which made for a stress-free day. Congratulations to all of our horse and rider combos!

Twilight Eventing at Loch Moy

Team Cadence beat the mid-week blues and headed to Twilight Eventing at Loch Moy Farm on Wednesday, June 8th. The Twilight Eventing series consists of a condensed version of the three phases - riders complete all three phases within a half hour of starting their dressage test. The weather was beautiful and all of our horse and rider teams made us proud! Congrats to Sandi and Elko, who placed first in their first ever CT!
